Homemade pizza takes a bit of prep time but the result is always superior and you can use as many different topping combos as you can dream up.
Words: Chef Dana Bosch
2tsp dry active yeast 1tsp salt
2tbs basil pesto
2tbs tomato paste Toppings
1 sliced tomato
Fresh basil to garnish
Prepare your dough: Mix your dry ingredients together. Make a well in your dry ingredients and slowly add your water. Use your hands to get the dough to come together. Tip it out onto a floured surface and knead for 5-10 mins until you have a nice tight dough.
Leave covered in a bowl for 2- 5hours for proofing.
For a very basic but flavourable sauce you mix together the pesto and tomato paste. (Cheat’s tip: you can use premade tomato pasta sauce or even plain pesto)
When your dough has doubled in size, cut your dough in half and roll out two pizza bases.
Place your bases onto a greased baking tray (use baking paper if you want to be extra careful) and spread your sauce directly onto the bases with the back of a spoon.
Now comes the fun part, layer your choice of toppings and a generous amount of cheese.
Pop your bases into a 240 degree oven (If your oven has a grill function, this will reduce your cook time) for 15-20 mins or until the cheese is gooey and golden.
Garnish with fresh basil and flaky salt.
