Cape Town Based Singer Latheem Releases New Single

Well-known Cape Town based singer/songwriter, Latheem, has released his new single “Bones”.

Officially released on 18 July 2020, “Bones” was first premiered 2 weeks before at 2020’s Global Pride Event, hosted by Todrick Hall, as one of the official South African selections and  featured an accompanying promotional video.

I wrote Bones during a particularly challenging time in my life. A winter of discontent. Living on someone’s couch, I had lost my job and my home and my relationship with my partner at the time felt like the only thing that brought any sunlight into my life.

Latheem confesses the song was written during a winter period when he had been destitute and living on someone’s couch for two months. The lyrics imply the singer as going through a lonely winter nomadically moving from place to place until the object of his affection enters, bringing with them warmth, sunlight and hope.

Instrumentally, Bones gently eases the listener in on a current of piano and synths which steadily build to a hip shaking drop of african congo drums and a catchy bassline.

Having been written and performed by Latheem, “Bones” also serves as his first self-produced track. “Due to the current lockdown situation, the risks of travelling to and from studio posed a particular challenge, so I was sort of forced to empower myself with the skills to produce music. Of course I had loads of help along the way for which I’m very grateful,”  says Latheem.

An alternative slow, contemporary version of the song can be found on his 2017 debut EP The Waiting Room which can also be found on his website.

BONES is available on all major streaming services.
