In the last few days, we reported several cases of violence and murder of members of the Queer community.

Today, 15 April 2021 we remember Bonang and Chippa, a lesbian couple who were attacked by a 58-year-old man in the Vaal. Chippa survived the stabbing but sadly Bonang succumbed to the injuries and was buried in her home town in the North West. The suspect appeared today for the 3rd time at Sebokeng Magistrates Court.

In yet another Queerphobic case, Nathaniel Spokgoane Mbhele, a gay man from the Vaal was stabbed last week outside a tavern. The suspect, in this case, is reported to have said that when he gets released from custody he will us off. He has been arrested and appeared at the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate Court. The court session has been reminded to 20 April 2021.

Enough is enough, it is very enough! This is a call for us to unite and root out this evil in our society. All elements of society need to work together. The arrests are not enough, often the perpetrators get released on bail or get handed very light sentences. Let’s rise, let our voices be heard. We need change now!!!
