ANNOUNCING MZANSI QUEER FESTIVAL
Mzansi Queer Festival is the first of its kind in South Africa. Queer activist Yaya Mavundla who is the founder of Mzansi Pride collaborates with Gauteng Tourism Authority in what she describes as a “Delicious festival for Queer people”.
This festival offers a platform to promote LGBTI advocacy and rights by providing a space for good food, good wine, good music and of course good company. The goal is to is to push for an inclusive entertainment space, more so after the country, most of all the Queer community, has gone through so much. South Africa has recorded a shocking number of hate-crimes in the past year only. We have also seen during the height of Covid19 how many queer business owners and those in the entertainment not benefiting from government support in anyway. So yeah, a break is well-deserved, just to unwind and chill.
This inaugural festival will be held on Saturday the 5th of March 2022 from 12 noon, entrance will be free but those who will be joining after 6pm will be asked to buy a ticket for only R100, not bad!
Yaya and Gauteng Tourism Authority are still in talks with your favs, popular artists who will serenade you at this festival and the lineup will be announced in due course. It’s going to be a feast, brace yourselves. There will be food stall, wineries and cash bars, those who would opt for cooler or lunch box will be charged an additional R100.
Yaya Mavundla is a multi-award-winning transgender activist, influencer and reality Tv Star who brings in a wealth of experience in organizing events after she had organized very successful pride events under Mzansi Pride, while Gauteng Tourism Authority is an agency of Gauteng Provincial Government that is mandated to develop and promote tourism in the province of Gauteng.
