PRIDE OF AFRICA CELEBRATION

Together we celebrate 33 years of advocacy, activism and change
with the official announcement of the 2022 Pride of Africa Celebration which hosts the

Johannesburg Pride March.

Following the successful launch of its unfunded unified community platform and foundation, Pride of Africa announced official details of the 33rd Pride Parade & Celebration. Since its inception in 1990 the event remains an open invitation for all to come and take a stride for Pride. Every year, thousands of LGBTQ+ community members and allies march through the streets of Johannesburg in a stand for self-acceptance and legal rights.

Taking place on Saturday, 29th October 2022, the event returns to the streets of Sandton after a 2-year hiatus, having secured support of Gauteng Province, Sandton City Mall, Sandton Central, Mercedes-Benz, EY, Pride Insure, Flight Centre, BCG and several other prominent corporates in the business district.

To ensure that all Pride goers have a fantastic day, a Pride Village will be set up next to Sandton City, between Sandton Drive and 5th Street, with secure parking available at the mall. Easy access via the Sandton Gautrain station, the Sandton Taxi Rank and all e-hailing services will also be available. The Pride Village creates a safe space for attendees to enjoy the day with access to various food & beverage stalls and a street market. The official Johannesburg Pride March will kick off from the Pride Village at 14:00, guiding attendees through the streets of Sandton.

Adding to this year’s festivities is a mix of Proudly South African performers, with the likes of, MsParty, Dj Skye, Atlanta, King B, Dj Imme and Tamara Dey all gracing the stage.

To round off the day’s events, Pride of Africa’s exclusive entertainment partner will host the official Pride after party. Keep an eye on their social channels for more information.

To ensure that all Pride attendees are kept safe during this year’s festivities, arrangements have been made for security, clean-up and recycling and medical services to provide a luxe experience at the Pride Village and during the march. A qualified medical doctor will be on standby during the entire festival. A private security company will assist with the security at the event in addition to approximately 500 volunteers from the community who will act as marshals during the procession. The assistance of the Johannesburg Metro Police Department and the South African Police Service will also be available to control and regulate the traffic as the march progresses through the streets of Sandton.

To assist with bringing all of this to life, Pride of Africa is pleased to annouce that several diversity conscious, global entities are supporting Johannesburg Pride in ever-increasing numbers. These include Pride Insure, EY and Mercedes-Benz, Coca-Cola South Africa and eMedia have also come on board as official Pride of Africa media partners, without whom our 33rd year would not be as colorful.
