Expect to enjoy a strong lineup of established and emerging artists, dance and Vogueing, Graffiti, Jägermeister Cocktails, Interpretive Fashion, Food and elevated musical experiences.” Says Bea Theron, Jägermeister Experiential Manager.

Night Embassy Johannesburg has a lot to celebrate. The four residencies have seen Unmuted, Other Village People, Kombonation and DORMANTYOUTH creating bold new Nightlife experiences and uncovering fresh talent at iconic spaces in the Joburg inner city (Carfax), Braamfontein (No.4 at Constitution Hill), Uncle Tom’s in Soweto and Megalo in Alex, respectively, with the support of Jägermeister.

Night Embassy by Jägermeister is a residency programme centered on ‘Freiraum’, a space for unbridled self-expression and unlimited creativity. Night Embassy began in Berlin, moved to Moscow and in July 2021 launched in South Africa. Night Embassy Joburg supported the selected Ambassadors of the Night through Freiraum, production support, budget and mentorship by the Night Embassy Creative Board: Event producer, business strategist and venue owner Theresho Selesho; designer, artist and creative director Jana Hamman; LGBTQI pioneer, DJ and content creator Lelowhatsgood; skate scene champion and filmmaker Day Marumo and amapiano centered talent management agency owner Thuli Keupzz.

The Unmuted duo, made up of Limpopo born rappers, producers and promoters, kicked off Night Embassy Johannesburg with Unmute The City. Draper believes “Night Embassy has created a model for creatives and other brands to learn from and when collaboration is put at the heart of the idea, Nightlife communities are engaged authentically, then the Night becomes a lot more diverse and desirable. I foresee new ideas leading the night from here on in, because if it’s not Night Embassy standard, then it’s not good for Nightlife.”

Lincoln Long is sure that as a result of Night Embassy Joburg “We’ll see a change in Nightlife where new collectives are able to compete with the big Nightlife stakeholders. Unmuted, OVP, Kombonation and DORMANTYOUTH have proven that it’s not how big your collective is, but rather that fresh new spaces and experiences are created when you embrace your community, keep true to their Nightlife needs, and always being authentic. That’s the Nightlife the people want.”

“We have learnt a lot through this incredible experience,” says DJ and promoter A.nD of the Other Village People who hosted Queertopia with her curator partner Kefiloe Siwisa. “It has driven us to think differently about how we can contribute to Nightlife and continuously create intentional spaces. We can’t wait for our bigger ideas to come to fruition. #Queertopia.2.0”

Sowetan film makers, photographers, event promoters and performers Kombonation had an unforgettable experience through Kaofela Kaofela. “The honour of representing our kommunity on a global platform has been nothing short of monumental. Kaofela Kaofela’s mandate, to bring together people from different walks of life in hopes of showkasing Kasi kreativity, was fulfilled,” says Slim Rose.

Kombonation’s Kabelo Sello adds, “The team of people behind the scenes made sure we produce the best nights of Soweto historikally, managing to make last year’s postponement work in the favour of kreating the necessary anticipation that our residency deserved. Kombonation itself is in a way better position koming out of this process, we’re grateful for the learnings, hurdles and massive wins for everyone who was involved. Kaofela Foreva!”

For architect and DJ DORMANTYOUTH “This was truly an experience of a lifetime. I have a new-found perspective on collaboration and teamwork through this wild experience. Night Embassy has definitely and quite heavily influenced my path going forward, especially in my professional journey. I have the teams from both the brand and production to thank for that. Nightlife in Joburg will never be the same and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for this city.”
