MEDIA STATEMENT
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FEW is honoured to be nominated for Feather Awards. It is the greatest honor to us, to be recognised for the work we have been doing from 2004..
Since it’s formulation by the likes of Sir Zanele Moholi and other leaders who came before us…FEW is still the voice of the African Lesbains, Bisexuals and Queer… a safe space for women who identify as lesbians Bisexuals and Queer…

The vision for FEW is that of a socio- economically included included lesbian in the communities, a lesbian who enjoys a safe and an equal society, free to identify with whom she is…

FEW’s responsibility to date has been to challenge the current system that excludes humans, women that do not subscribe to heterenormative ways of life. This has been done through advocacy programs that challenges the Criminal Justice System by engaging the government by advocating for policy changes.(e.g Hate Crime Bill, ensure that justice is served). FEW had been involved in claiming our space in the communities through initiatives like Soweto Pride, by mobilising the likes of Rainbow Alliance.(RAA) engaging with communities leadership such as Churches and local leaders to realise the plight faced by our community.FEW is championing community Prides …. “We need to have footprint in every corner of the South Africa, as we intend sharing our learnings with Africa”.. insisted Nomfundo Ndaba, Acting Director of FEW.

We are eager to continue in championing the social and economic empowerment of women…by continuing to engage government to ensure LGBTI inclusion in the policy development by ensuring the recognition of of LGBTI awareness in school curriculum, by training the teachers, the health system to be inclusive in caring for LBQ needs, for media to reflect the ratio of LBQ in their streaming…

As we continue to pursue programs that drive inclusion, in the near future We intend advancing our engagement with Criminal Justice System in by launching an LGBT app in the near future that will ensure the registration and monitoring all cases of discrimination, of rape and murder of LGBTI community to ensure that our plight is recognize by the highest authorities on land including the likes of Human Rights commission, Gender Equality Commission , a Lesbains in Tech online Program that is meant to empower lesbians through skills development and opportunities of placement.. but also continue to advocate for inclusion of Lesbains in Art, Sports, Media

We might have not the Feather Awards as yet but we have already won through recognition, as we get recognised for impacting meaningfully with those we represent… adds Fundi Ndaba…

We would like to thank the Feather Awards 2022 to recognise the value of advocacy by all women who have been involved in creating this legacy work…
